Only a few more hours until FanFest!!! I’m so excited
I just wanted to let you all know that you need to find Hyun Young and I tomorrow, because we have some very special treats for you. Yeah, I know, we’re great.
I’m going to be wearing my Adrian jersey, and I’ll have Adrian’s Red Sox mug shot taped to one sleeve, and a very cute picture of Kouz on the other. It’s going to be SWEET.
I really hope that I’ll get to meet a lot of you guys tomorrow. Don’t be shy!
See you all tomorrow!!
I am soooo excited about FanFest!!! I can’t believe that it’s only two days away. I’m going to have so much fun, and I’m so happy that I get to go to Petco Park this weekend. Best place ever.
Even though it’s pretty much the same events as last year, I’m still super excited to get out there and recharge my fanhood. It’s been way too long since I’ve seen any baseball, and this is pretty much a celebration of our boys getting ready to get out there and win a title for us.
Hyun Young and I are really hoping to get Mat Latos’ autograph. Out of all the guys on our team, this is one of the most amazing rising stars, and I feel like his autograph is going to be worth a lot someday. I would say that he’s the next Jake Peavy but…look how he turned out.
I’m also excited to see the clubhouse again. I’ve taken the tour twice, but it still has the awe of the first time. Just thinking about the kind of legends that have stood in that clubhouse, like Trevor Hoffman and Kevin Kouzmanoff. Just to think that my baby spent a ton of time in that room…wow. It makes me want to scream or faint or something. That is a very special place.
I really hope that there’s a lot of good stuff at the garage sale, too. Last year I got a Kevin Kouzmanoff banner that had been hanging on one of the lampposts (until they traded him of course). It’s super cool, and I hope that I can find more Kouz stuff and anything else interesting.
And of course, the best part about FanFest is meeting up with other fans who are just as crazy about the Padres as I am! I hope to meet and re-meet a ton of people this year, including but not limited to Hyun Young, John, Gaslamp Ball people, RJ’s Fro people, Twitter people, and Friarhood people. Especially since Hyun Young and I have a very special plan.
I can’t wait. It’s going to be such a fun day!!
You guys are awesome.
In January’s Latest Leader’s list, Unfinished Business is #5. I am consistently amazed and humbled by the way you guys read my blog. All I can say is THANK YOU. Thank you for wanting to hear the rants about the Padres from one girl. Thank you for your support of me and this blog. I never imagined where this would go when I made it 2 1/2 years ago. I hope that I will be able to continue to write about my boys for you guys for a long time.
And of course, I must dedicate this ranking to my boy
Be still my heart. Oh wow.
Seriously. That guy is way too cute.
ANYWAYS, we are ridiculously close to pitchers and catchers reporting. I’m soooo excited!! I was just thinking the other day how much I miss baseball. I’m usually so busy during the offseason that I barely notice that baseball is gone, which is a good thing, but I’m SOO excited that it’s coming back. It’s been waaaaay too long.
But before everyone heads out to Spring Training, we’ve got Fan Fest in a week. I’m really hoping that I’ll be able to make it. There’s some technical details that need to be worked out, but if all goes well, I will be out there at my second home, Petco Park, in a week. By the way, I’m planning to wear my Adrian jersey, but I will definitely have Kouz on my sleeve. Maybe I’ll use the picture above. It’s just waaaaay too cute. Whew.
Well, thank you guys again so much!!!!
The first anniversary of Kevin Kouzmanoff’s awful trade was this past Saturday. I can’t believe that it’s been a whole year since the Padres traded away my baby.
Since that terrible day, things just haven’t been the same. I didn’t get to see Kouz all year, which is just strange.
I’ve had a connection with Kouz ever since he signed autographs for me and my friends way back in 2007. It meant so much to me that I fell in love with him right there and then. Also, both of our rookie seasons was 2007. We both had a taste of the majors in the end of 2006, but both of us really got into it in 2007.
Ever since that night, Kouz has been my all-time number one favorite baseball player ever. First of all, he’s a great baseball player, and he’s really nice and funny and I loved having him here in San Diego.
I’m sure all of you guys know what it’s like to have a favorite player on your team. It just makes your fanhood so much more fulfilling to have one specific special player that you cheer for. I’ll always be a fan of the Padres, the whole team, no matter what players are on it, but it was a lot more fun to be able to watch a guy that I loved watching play as much as Kouz.
As a Padres fan, you kind of have to be wary of the players on the team, especially when Moores was in control, because the name of our game is rebuilding. Any of these guys could be traded away, just like that. Now, I had gone through a lot of tough trades before the blow on January 16th, 2010. I thought that losing Jake Peavy and Trevor Hoffman was tough. But it was nothing like losing my all-time favorite player.
Of couse, Kouz is still my favorite player. He always has been and always will be. But it’s so sad that I can’t cheer for him here. He’s not on the Padres. He’s way up the coast with the A’s.
Kouz, it was a hard season without you. Thankfully, we were winning enough that I didn’t think about it too much, but still. It was so weird without being able to cheer for you here. I’m so happy that you had a good season, though, and I really hope that someday, someday, you’ll be able to come back and play for the Padres.
Thanks so much for everything, Kouz. I love you!!!!!
A couple of days ago the 2010 Leaders on MLBlogs.com came out, and this blog was the 8th most popular blog all year!! I’m so excited. Thank you guys so much
It was so much fun to blog during 2010, especially with how well my Padres played. I am very, very excited about next season, though. I just put up my 2011 schedule, which is actually quite the ritual for me. Ever since I became a Padres fan in 2007, I’ve put the season schedule on the wall next to my bed. This year is my fifth year of being a Padres fan. Of course, five is a very significant number because that’s Kouz’s number. I’m really excited to celebrate my 5th year of being a Padres fan
I also wanted to remind you guys that Unfinished Business does have a Facebook page and a Twitter account. Check out the Facebook page here:
Be sure to “follow” and “like” my blog!
Aaaand I miss my boys. It seems like forever that we’ve had any baseball. I’m so excited about how close baseball is to starting. I just can’t wait to see how good this team is going to be. The coolest thing about starting a new season is that you never know what’s going to happen. Maybe we’ll stink, but hey, at least we’ll get to watch some baseball. But maybe we’ll be the greatest team in the MLB. You just don’t know. Sometimes, you don’t even know until the last few days of the season
I can’t wait for baseball, and the Fan Fest, which is going to be incredibly fun.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!! I am soooo excited for 2011. It’s kind of creepy how fast it’s here already, but I’m excited nonetheless.
2010 was a great year, no doubt about it. Especially for Padres baseball. Our season was amazing!! We had a season that far exceeded all the expectations of just about everybody. But even as the season went on, and we won much more than seemed possible, not many people believed in us. Of course, the faithful did. The die-hards did. We believed in them all the way up to the last game of the season, when our only hope was to win against the soon-to-be World Champions. We weren’t able to come through in that game, but it was still a season worth celebrating.
There were some sad moments this year, most memorably, at the very beginning of the year, in January, when Kevin Kouzmanoff was traded. That hurt me very, very deeply. It was really hard to see him leaving my team, and my fanhood did suffer because of it. But he’s still my baby, no matter where he’s playing. He’s in Oakland now, but I’m still cheering for him and hoping that maybe someday he’ll get to come back to the Padres. The “Kouz Krush” lives on! (Thanks to unclejackie for that wonderful phrase!)
We also lost Adrian Gonzalez, which was quite the blow, but I guess it was easier to handle. We all knew that it was coming and it was handled so smoothly that it’s easy to deal with. Also, he’s going to the Red Sox, my second favorite team. At least he didn’t go to the Yankees. I would have been sooo upset if he had gone to the Yankees.
This was also a big year for my blog. I celebrated my second blog birthday, which was very fun. I also found myself in the Top 10 Latest Leaders for the first time ever, and have stayed in there consistently over the next few months.
Thank you all so much. This year was a blast, and I’m looking forward to more blogging and more Padres baseball in the year ahead. I’m also really looking forward to the FanFest, in which I will be meeting a lot of you through the Twitter meetup and just walking around Petco Park. I can’t wait to start a new season with a new team and hopefully get to watch some great Padres baseball.
Have a great New Year, everyone.
So I was looking at our team yesterday, and we seriously have a ton of holes. I feel like guys are slipping out of our hands so fast that we can’t catch them all and they’re leaving us completely empty.
Who have we lost this offseason already? Adrian Gonzalez to the Red Sox, Yorvit Torrealba to the Rangers, Miguel Tejada to the Giants, Kevin Correia to the Pirates, and now Tony Gwynn Jr. to the Dodgers. Plus we lost Chris Young. Our roster is looking awfully thin right now.
But we have signed pitcher Aaron Harang, and we’re about to sign Dustin Moseley, who is also a pitcher. So now our rotation looks like…Mat Latos, Harang, Clayton Richard, Moseley, and Wade LeBlanc or Tim Stauffer. I don’t know. It might work, but it seems like a very unstable rotation.
Well, I guess we’ll have to see how things pan out. We’ve still got a ton of offseason left (waaaaaa), so we have a lot of time to pull a team together.
In other news, the Latest Leaders list on MLBlogs.com came out for the month of November. This blog is #5 of all fan blogs!!! I’m sooooo excited!! I think I was #5 a couple months ago, but 5 is my absolute favorite number and I’m so excited to get it again.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, to all of you for reading this blog. It’s so much fun to know that you guys are reading so much that you’re putting this blog in the top 5 of all fan blogs. I can’t thank you enough!
Of course, I can’t mention the number five without showing you THE number five:
Love you Kouz
I hope you all have a great day!!
So Adrian’s deal is just about done. I am very sad He had a physical today in Boston, and all that’s left to do is release an official announcement. But from what it looks like, we’re only going to get three minor league players. I don’t like that at all. Sure, they’re top prospects, but with losing Adrian, we need players who will be able to help us right now.
Very sad day for all Padres fans. I hope all of you are doing okay, but I know it’s going to take us a while to deal with anger and the hurt. Oh well. Hoyer thinks that this is the best for the club, so I guess we need to trust him.
I love Adrian. At least he’s going to the Red Sox, and not the Yankees.
Today was pretty sad, but one thing that cheered me up was a grand opening for a new Cox Solutions store in Escondido, featuring Tony Gwynn Jr. and Jane Mitchell!
I seriously had so much fun. There was a ton of great free stuff, which I was really glad to get. Plus I got Tony’s autograph and a picture with him, which was super cool.
I also got to meet Jane Mitchell and get a free copy of her beautiful new book, One on One: My Journey with Hall of Famers, Fan Favorites, and Rising Stars.
She was sooo nice, and I’m super excited about reading the book, especially the section about Kevin Kouzmanoff. Jane does something very unique, and I’m really excited about leaning more about her and her career, especially since she’s a female in a man’s world, just like I want to be.
So that was a lot of fun. I’m so glad that I was able to go
Waiting in dread for the final word on Adrian’s trade…
I can’t believe that it’s this time of year again! Amazing how fast the time goes, huh?
Though we should be thankful every day, I’m glad that we do have a day set apart to really think about our blessings. And oh boy, am I blessed! Here’s just a few of the bountiful blessings that I have:
- I am so thankful first and foremost, for my Savior Jesus Christ. Without Him, I would have nothing. He’s provided for me in everything, and I am just so thankful that He would love a wretch like me. It is so reassuring to know that it’s not about me, but it’s all about what He did on the cross for me. My Father is so incredible! It’s all because of Him. I hope to give Him the glory in everything that I do, because He so deserves it.
- I am so thankful for this baseball community here at MLBlogs and the community of Padres fans through other blogs. It’s been so much fun to meet some of you and cheer on the Padres together. Hyun Young, John, the guys at Gaslamp Ball and RJ’s Fro, Steve, keep up the great work. I am honored to be a part of such a strong core of Padres bloggers.
- I am so thankful for the Padres’ season this year. Man, that was fun. It was so great to have a winning team here in San Diego, and I really hope that we’ll be able to continue that. I mean, so many people didn’t think we were going to go anywhere, but we were a first place team for almost the entire season. Especially for Padres fans, that’s a lot of be thankful for.
- I am so thankful for all my friends and mentors at my church and youth group. You guys mean so much to me, and I don’t know what I would do without you. Thank you so much for loving me, for laughing with me, for crying with me, for being there through everything. I am truly blessed to be in such a tight-knit body of believers. I love you all so much!!
- I am so thankful for Kevin Kouzmanoff. That dude is just so amazing, and I’m so glad that he was able to play in San Diego for three years. I was at Boomers last night, and I got to drive the #5 go-kart twice and I was like, man, I miss that dude. He is just way too cool. I am also really thankful that I’m not obsessed with the guys that everyone likes like Robert Pattison and Zac Efron, who are basically unaccesable. I’ve seen Kouz many, many times, I’ve gotten his autograph, I’ve sat next to him for a picture. He is a very real person in my life, and I’m so thankful for my baby
- I am so thankful for this blog and all my readers. I love being able to tell you guys my thoughts about the Padres and being able to hear your reactions. And even if you don’t comment that much, I know that you are reading, because this blog is in the top 10 fan blogs on MLBlogs.com. That just blows my mind. Thank you, thank you, thank you, for putting this blog in there and for keeping me there. I am so thankful for this blog and for all of your guys. I know I say it over and over again, but without you guys, there would be no purpose to this blog. I can’t thank you enough. You guys are just amazing!!!!!
I hope that you all have a GREAT Thanksgiving.
Well, it’s been four days since the season ended. It’s been rough, that’s for sure. Especially since everyone who thought that the Padres were not going anywhere this season are back in full force saying, I told you so! It’s extremely frustrating, but what can you do. The only consolement I’m getting is that I believed all season and I didn’t give up. I was right there with my boys the whole time, and man they had an incredible season.
As the offseason goes on, I’ll be writing some season-rememberance stuff, but right now I kind of want to review my personal season of blogging.
Let me tell you, this year has been absolutely amazing. I didn’t blog as consistently as I have in years past, but this blog has really had a great year. In 2009, I was around the 20s in the Latest Leader list. This season I jumped up to number 10 and number 11. That’s where I was for most of the year until I jumped up to #6 in August and now, I was #5 in the top fan blogs list. I’m soooo excited!!!
If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you know that my all-time favorite baseball player is Kevin Kouzmanoff, whose number is 5. I’ve always wanted to be #5 on the list so that I could do a dedication to him and I’m soo excited that it’s finally happened!!
Since there’s a lot of recaps going around, I’m going to review Kouz’s season. I didn’t really talk about him much this season because I was so focused on the Padres’ first-place dominance, but I think it’ll be cool to see how he did after he was so sadly shipped away from the Padres.
Kouz was traded to the Oakland A’s on January 16th, 2010, in exchange for Scott Hairston and Aaron Cunningham.
He hit .247 with 16 homers and 71 RBIs. He played in 143 games, and of course, his back acted up near the end of the season and he was out for a few weeks.
His fielding stats, though, are no where near as impressive as last year. Remember that when he had three errors all season and a .990 fielding percentage and he didn’t get a Gold Glove? That was so sad. Man. But anyways, he had 12 errors this year, and a .968 fielding percentage. So, not too bad, but not as great as last year.
On another matter, he’s still as adorable as ever
I missed you a lot this season, Kouz. Definitely not the same without you, and your trade even effected my fanhood just a little. I’m glad you had a great season with the A’s, and I hope that someday you’ll be able to play in San Diego again. Love you!!!!!
Thank you guys sooo much for your great support. Thank you for getting me to #5. This blog would be meaningless if no one read it, so thank you so much for reading. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy putting it together. You guys are amazing!!!!
GO PADRES!!! GO KEVIN KOUZMANOFF!!! GO #5!!!!
