SAN DIEGO FIRST-PLACE PADRES!!!! YEAH BABY!!!!
I’m so happy that we were able to get the past two games against the Dodgers. It was pretty sad to not be in second place for a few days, but we’re back now and that’s all that matters.
Tim Stauffer threw a great game last night. He went six innings, three hits, one run. Pretty sweet.
Miguel Tejada hit a huge homer: one, it pretty much won the game for us, and two, it was his 300th career home run. Congrats Miguel!!
Then, of course, we had the dynamic trio of Luke Gregerson, Mike Adams, and Heath Bell. Man those guys are good. Gregerson’s inning was spotless, and while Adams and Bell allowed a walk each, they all got the job done.
I’m just sooo excited to be back in first place. We’ve seriously come too far to not win the division.
Huge thank you to the Cubs. It’s about time. Be sure to get them Giants tonight!!
The Giants are 0.5 games behind, and the Rockies are three. The Dodgers are eliminated. 11 games to go.
We’re almost there, Friar Faithful. We’re going to make it. Deeeep breaths. Okay. We’re going to make it.
GO FIRST-PLACE PADRES (man it feels good to say that again)!!!! SWEEP LA!!!! GO CUBS!!!!
The Padres beat the Dodgers 6-0 in an essential game in Dodger Stadium last night.
Clayton Richard threw his first career shutout and outfielder Ryan Ludwick drove in four runs as the Padres stayed 0.5 games behind the Giants in the NL West.
It was such a sweet game! I was so happy with Clayton’s performance. He did seem to be allowing quite a few of runners, but man, he threw a shutout, so I guess he did fine. He allowed eight hits, walked two, and struck out six. But seriously, we needed that outing. Not only did he just throw a great game, he allowed a well-deserved rest for the bullpen. Hopefully with a couple days off, these guys will be rested and ready to get out there and hold down everyone for the next 12 games.
12 games. Can you believe that? I absolutely cannot. It seems like the season just started! It’s unbelievable to me that we only have 12 games left in the regular season. Insane. That just goes to show how much fun we’ve been having…the time flew by.
We’ve come so far this season. Nobody expected these boys to be on top of the NL West period, much less for almost the entire season. No one expected them to be in the playoffs, but that’s where they’re headed.
I kind of wish we were like the Minnesota Twins right now. They clinched last night. But the NL West is probably not going to be decided until like the last series. How exciting would that be to clinch against the Giants? Take over the division and then win it. Oh boy. I’m hoping that we’ll be able to do it before then, but man…take about tension and excitement. That would be crazy.
We really needed that win last night, and I’m so glad we were able to find our bats and get it. Even better was that I got free pancakes at Denny’s this morning because the Padres scored six runs. Check it out. http://xx1090sandiego.com/pages/dennys. It’s pretty sweet.
I am very disappointed in the Chicago Cubs, though. Last night they lost 1-0 to the Giants. Somehow they could not get one stinking run across the board, much less two to beat SF. They’d better get their game on tonight and BEAT THOSE GIANTS!!!
Starting Friday is “San Diego Padres Week.” Seriously. It’s official and everything. I’m so excited about it :) :)
Tim Stauffer is pitching against Ted Lilly tonight. Let’s do this.
GO SHOULD BE IN FIRST PLACE PADRES!!!!!! BEAT LA!!!! GO CUBS!!!!!
Man, this weekend was tough! I had a feeling that the series against the Cardinals was going to be a battle, but I didn’t realize just how bad it was really going to be. I guess that even though the Cards are not doing so great right now, they will always, always do great against the Padres. Just one of those bizarre baseball things.
Not going to lie, I think we really needed two of those games instead of just one. We were able to get back into first place for approximately a few hours, and we’re only half a game behind. It could have been a lot worse. But man, we’ve got to pull ourselves together. We can’t afford to be losing series like this.
We’ve got 13 games left in the regular season. 13!!! That’s barely anything, but if things keep going the way they have been lately, it’s going to be a battle all the way to the end. I’m sooo nervous!!!
I am counting on beating the Dodgers for the next three games. We ABSOLUTELY have to get at least two out of three. Preferably. Failure is not an option. It’s just gotta happen.
A huge positive from this weekend was Chris Young’s performance on Saturday. He only threw four innings, but he didn’t allow anything but a run and three hits. He threw 69 pitches, 41 for strikes. Most of them were fastballs too, but he was effective. Congrats CY!!
I just wanted to take a quick look at the ERAs of some of the guys in the bullpen. Our entire pitching staff is an overall 3.46, which is second in the Major Leagues, only behind the Giants by 0.01 points.
Joe Thatcher’s ERA is 1.32, which is second only to Chris Young’s 0.90 (haha). Joe’s thrown in 59 games.
Next is Mike Adams with a 1.82. He’s thrown in 62 games, but he has significantly more innings than Thatcher.
Heath Bell has a 1.87, which is great for a closer. He’s got 42 saves!
Ernesto Frieri is a 1.95, but he’s only thrown in 29 games.
Ryan Webb goes up to 2.95, but he’s only been in 48 games, while the guys in the 1.00’s have thrown a lot more.
Edward Mujica is 3.44. But Luke Gregerson is a 3.49, which is eh. He’s actually thrown more innings than anyone in the bullpen, though, so maybe he’s excused.
I just thought it was interesting how good some of these guys are by the numbers. Like Adams and Bell have been extremely instrumental. Gregerson too, but he seems to be slipping a little lately.
Well, I don’t you about you, but I still believe in this team. This division is absolutely crazy right now, but we’re still in it and I believe that we’ll be in the playoffs in a few weeks. Stick with them. They’re going to pull through.
GO SHOULD BE IN FIRST PLACE PADRES!!!! BEAT LA!!!
