The San Diego Padres' ongoing quest for a World Series (or at least a playoff title). "You know that many runners enter a race, but only one of them wins the prize. So run to win! Athletes work hard to win a crown that cannot last, but we do it for a crown that will last forever." 1 Corinthians 9:24-25

Congrats on the 6 spot. I am currently also facing the Senior content slow down. It was hard enough balancing school, and the blog as it was, but it got almost too much for me once applications rolled around. Anyway, best of luck in 2012.

Take it from someone who lives in Cincy and follows the Reds quite closely: I think you will be pleasantly surprised with Yonder Alonso. (I assume that's why the Padres traded their prospect Rizzo: to give Alonso the playing time). He's a great young hitter who I think will turn out to be a really good player. He can hit for power and he can now play at his regular position, first base. I was a little disappointed to see him go, but the Reds did him a favor by trading him since they have Joey Votto at first base. The chance to play everyday will only help Alonso get better.

What a great deal the Padres made here, the best I can remember they made in a while. Yonder Alonso is baseball's top hitting prospect, and hitting is exactly what the Padres need. I was very upset to hear the news though, because I was hoping my Rays could pull of a deal to get Alonso.

It's like a Brett Favre to Aaron Rodgers kind of thing San Diego had. One great closer in Hoffman to another good closer in Bell.
It is sad to see one of your favorite players go and its even harder to write about it.http://brewerstoday.mlblogs.com/
