Why I am not watching the All-Star Game…
I will not be watching the All-Star Game tonight by choice. I am most definitely boycotting it. Naturally, since my family doesn’t get any channels on TV, I wouldn’t have been able to watch it anyway, but even if I did have the opportunity, I’m not going to watch it.
There are a lot of reasons, most of which you can read here: http://kaybee.mlblogs.com/2011/07/03/padres-shirked-in-all-star-game-again/ But it really boils down to one thing: what’s the point in watching?
I am a fan of baseball, and this is the mecca of baseball’s greatest players. But even more than that, I’m a Padres fan, and I find it really hard to be excited about anything baseball-related that isn’t very Padres related. If I do have the opportunity to watch TV and I run into a baseball game that isn’t the Padres, I’m not compelled to watch it. I might watch the Red Sox, but nothing attracts me to baseball more than the Padres do.
So, for me, watching the All-Star Game isn’t exciting because there’s only one Padres representative, Heath Bell. And we all know that he’s probably going to get to throw two pitches and give up the AL game-winning grand slam to Adrian Gonzalez. That’s my prediction.
I have never liked the All-Star Game and probably never will. I just don’t understand why it’s in the middle of the season. It really doesn’t make any sense.
Anyway, the whole thing just drives me nuts, and I think that it’s best for my health and well-being that I don’t watch the 500 Yankees players plus Adrian hit two gazillion home runs off Heath Bell and win the game. Yeah. Definitely a good idea.
