How ‘Bout That Front Office??

So, how’s this front office doing so far? If any of you read my blog a year ago, during that awful offseason, you know that I was really, really upset with the front office. It was not pretty. I was ripping into them almost every day, mostly because of the horrible Trevor Hoffman separation, which I really hope doesn’t happen with LT. That situation with Trevor was handled terribly by the front office. It was embarrassing, in fact. Oh my goodness, it was just really bad.

So I was not happy with John Moores and Kevin Towers and Sandy Alderson at this point. It felt like we were under a dictatorship that didn’t care about the fans, like at all. You have no idea how happy I was when I found out that Jeff Moorad was going to buy the club. I was also very happy when Towers got fired and we hired Jed Hoyer. At that point, anything was better than what we had before. It didn’t really matter if these guys turned out to be worse; we just needed something new.

And so far, I like what I see.

Of course, I don’t agree with the Kevin Kouzmanoff trade, but you know what, things are changing for the good. I think that the fact that things are changing is a great sign for the future of this organization. We haven’t been as big as some teams in the free-agent market this offseason, but we’ve made some big moves, like the signings of Jerry Hairston and Jon Garland, and soon, hopefully Yorvit Torrealba. These aren’t the biggest names, but they’re fairly well-known, and as a fan, it’s really exciting to actually recognize the names of these players!

sd.gifOne thing that I’ve really noticed is the use of the “SD” logo a lot more. I remember reading an article where Jeff Moorad said that he wanted to use the logo a lot more and make SD a thing like LA. I don’t know why, but I’m always really thrilled when I see an “SD” used on the website and stuff ’cause it’s got Jeff Moorad written all over it. It’s also exciting because he said that he wanted to use it more and now they are. That shows that they’re really going through with what they said they were going to do.

Like in the FanFest information, I noticed this line: “Wear your Padres blue to show your SD pride and win prizes.” Very interesting.
By the way, the FanFest is going to be a fantastic event this year. It’s been pretty good is years past, but this is going to be huge. That’s another thing that the front office is really doing well on. It’s going to be an amazing day, and it’s for free too! I’m really, really excited :)

The front office is doing great. They’re making changes, generating excitement among the fans, and hopefully, building a World-Series-caliber team.

Last week I went to Sports Authority, and guess what I found? A $120 Padres jersey on clearance for $10!!! I was sooo happy!! I love a deal :)

Oh yeah, so we’re supposed to sign Yorvit Torrealba sometime soon. I wanted the Padres to get this guy a while back. I don’t remember exactly when it was, but I thought he would be a good fit here. I remember that last year he was like a Padres killer. It was most annoying. Hopefully we will be able to get this guy locked up soon. I think he will be a great mentor to Nick Hundley, and also a great asset behind the plate.

Dude, it’s seriously less than two weeks until pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training! I can’t WAIT!! I miss baseball so much right now. I can’t wait for those long summer nights listening to some great Padres baseball. And this is going to be a great year, I’m sure of it. We probably won’t get anywhere, with San Diego’s luck, but hey, as long as we play some great ball, I’m sure it’ll be a great season. Stupid Chargers.

Its good that the front office is really selling the SD. It is a company after all and that logo is the first thing notced when talking about the Padres

The Padres front office has been great this off-season, and it’s been very productive. They haven’t spent too much on one player, which is good. They have also made a lot of low-risk, high reward moves. Gotta be a fan of that. I think I’ll be going to the Fanfest as well. It will be awesome!!!

Great entry! It seems like our front office is on a roll.
Plus, check out my to do list at the Fan Fest :)(PS: I know I’m super late but thanks for the nice comment you wrote to the guy who thinks Eck is a horrible player. Thanks for having my back!)http://hyunyoung.mlblogs.com

It’s so nice to see the good energy around the padres. Lets hope it takes them far .

Wow, what a great bargain on the jersey! Will you be wearing it to the FanFest? So cool that it is FREE! You’ll post plenty of coverage of it, right?

Kaybee,
So is the jersey from a player or plain? I have both.
Is good that the Padres are using the SD logo more just like L.A.
I am super excited that the Pitchers and Catchers day is fast approaching!

Apparently, the Jays were looking at signing Torrealba too. He presents an interesting choice, being very good defensively and a contributor on offense. He is a steady player to sign for some of your young pitchers like Latos and Richard.

A fanfest! How super-cool. I’m surprised Torrealba’s gone unsigned this long; he’s a good catcher coming off a good year.
