A Streak Ended

Last night was a disaster. Don’t you just hate it when things are going really well in a game, and you turn your back for like five minutes and suddenly it’s 7-2 the other team? That’s what happened last night.

Things were going well. Will Venable gave us our first run in the bottom of the first with a solo homer. Nice job, you white-hot Will!

willy.jpgTim Stauffer was pitching decently. He gave up a run in the top of the second to tie the game, and a run in the fourth to give them the lead. But the Padres came back in the bottom of the foruth with a Chase Headley double. Tie game, again. The game was looking like the night before, where both teams were matching each other.

Then Stauffer gave up a run in the fifth. He was done after that. Mujica came in to fail in the sixth. He gave up four runs on five hits before leaving the inning. He only got one out. Joe Thatcher came in and got the last two outs, which was good. But the damage was done.

Mike Ekstrom gave up two more runs in his couple innings. Where did he come from? Has he really been around? Man, I have no idea what’s going on around here.

Anyways, there’s no more to say about the offense because they didn’t do anything for the rest of the game. They got four hits to Atlanta’s 17. HA! Wow guys. That’s just great. Venable had one, Everth had one, and Chase had two doubles. We lost 9-2.

Worst part of this game is that Adrian’s consecutive game streak was snapped. Man, I hate it when things like that happen! I mean, why couldn’t he at least pinch-hit or something? Oh well. Adrian’s the kind of guy who wants to be out there every night, no matter what. He had a terrible fever earlier in the year and he pinch-hit that night. Almost had a home run, too. He played in 314 straight games before sitting out last night. Wow. Congrats on the streak, Adrian, and sorry that it had to end.

adrian streak.jpgSo, rubber game of this series today. I think we should win it. I really really think we need to win it. Now, that would be really cool! Chad Gaudin is pitching already, I think he just pitched on Sunday. He’d better pitch very well. He’s actually done a lot better with short rest, so this will be good for him. Ahhh, afternoon baseball at Petco Park. I wish I could be there :)

I found an photo editing program on my computer yesterday, and I had a lot of fun experimenting with it :)  Here’s one of the pictures that I was messing with:

Kaybee: I’m glad you liked my “look alikes.” I just wanted to say, I am so much like you. I read your “about you,” and we are the same except for different teams. I’ll be 16 on Aug 16th, and I still want to work for the Yes Network (the Yankees channel). That has always been my dream job. At school I always where Yankee stuff, and if they are winning I sometimes wear the same shirt everyday until they lose to school, but I don’t care. It’s not cuz I’m gross, it’s cuz I love my team. I cry when the Yanks trade away someone I love, and I cried when the Yanks didn’t make the playoffs last year. I also freely express the Yankee crushes I have (Francisco Cervelli. Ow Ow!) You are so cool. You remind me of me. I’m glad the Padres didn’t trade Adrian Gonzalez to the Red Sox, I really feared that they would. We should definetely stay in contact. -Virginia

Yes. Even though managers like the words “it’s just one game,” one game quickly turns into five or six. Every losing streak starts with “just one game.”
On the flip side, every winning streak does, too.

Kaybee: Kouzmanoff is pretty cute. I love all 25 men in pinstripes. When the Yanks sent Cervelli back to Triple A, I was devastated. I was sad and angry for a week, and I still get sad when I think about him. Sigh. I really want to work in the clubhouse someday. Then I would be able to meet all players maybe Cervelli, and conduct interviews with them. A lot of times, the interviews are right after they come out of the shower, and OMG I can’t even think about it! Whoa! Talk to you later! -Virginia

I hate when winning streaks or hitting streaks or anything good comes to an end! But they always do, and we just have to gear up for another. Sorry your Padres lost. It just goes to prove you can’t turn your back even for a second!

I have to admit, I don’t recognize many of the names you mentioned in today’s post. And I know names. I guess that is a testament to your rebuilding strategy. Nothing wrong with it. I have been reading yours and the other Pads blogs so that I can become more adept at recognizing San Diego players. So thanks for the help! Sorry for the loss.

What a great streak your Padres had going. They will have to start another one. There is a lot to be positive about, for sure. GO PADRES!!! I have been checking the Padrees scores hoping they come out on top.

Kaybee: The Yankee Channel, called the YES Network, has this woman reporter named Kim Jones. She is my role model. She does all the stuff I want to do. She travels with the team, doing interviews before and after games, on the field, and the best thing: clubhouse interviews on the postgame! Many guys are shirtless while she is doing that! Imagine seeing a shirtless Alex Rodriguez as you walk down the clubhouse. It’s all part of the job! My job someday. I want to be the next Kim Jones, but I like her too much to take her place. I’l have to wait till she retires.

Kaybee, photo editing software has kind of become one of my favorite things. I have a picture of Matt Daley and I that I pretty much, well, kind of air brushed because he had these really dark circles under his eyes. Anyway, I got a little obsessed. The photo you edited looks SO cool!!
