Weekend of Wins

Over the weekend, the Padres played the Brewers for three games. Emotions were running high, with the Jake Peavy trade just coming down and Trevor Hoffman back in town for the first time as a Brewer. But the boys went out there, already on a three-game winning streak, and they fought hard.

In the first game of the series, Chad Gaudin started and boy was he bad. He only threw 1.2 innings, allowing seven runs, only three earned, on six hits. He gave up all seven in the second, so the Padres were down early.

In the fourth, the Padres got four runs. In the fifth, they got one. In the sixth, they got three more and that put them ahead 9-7. In the eighth, they got two more to make it an 11-7 game. WOW!! That must have been pretty cool to watch. With this team, if they get down 7-1, it doesn’t seem like they’ll come back. But they’ll suprise us sometimes. I love it when they do that

Will Venable has been very hot in the past series. He had something like seven hits and three homers!! That’s great.

In the second game of the series, Clayton Richard pitched. We just got him in the Peavy trade. He was good. He had a no-hitter going into the fifth. He pitched 5.2 innings, allowing one run on two hits with three walks and five strikeouts. He was gooood.

According to Jen, this guy is going to be really good, so I really hope he works out. Is he going to be the next Jake Peavy? No way, because no one can replace Jake. But he might get close

In the second, Will Venable (hot) homered. Whooo hooooo!!

In the fifth, Kouz sac-flied in a dude to give us a 2-0 lead.

In the top of the sixth, the Brewers got two homers to tie the game. Not good.

But we got a run in the bottom of the sixth on Oscar Salazar’s double. We got one more in the eighth on a Tony Gwynn single. It was great!

Heath Bell closed it out and we won our fifth straight!! Man, the Padres have been playing very well lately. It’s really cool

On Sunday, with the series already won for the Padres, they went for a sweep.

Ace Kevin Correia started the game and did very well. The game was tied at 1-1 in the seventh when Correia and the Padres bullpen ran into a lot of trouble. They gave up five runs in the inning to give the Brewers a big advantage.

That was basically it for the Padres, as they lost 6-1. But the worst part was that the Brewers put Trevor into the game in the ninth. I mean, really? Well, maybe it was a cool thing for the fans there. But they’ve got a five-run lead and they put in their closer? Hmmm.

Miss you, Trevor.

Anyways, it was a disappointing end to the series, but at least we won it. We’ve won two series in a row!! What’s happened to this team? They’ve suddenly become very good, but I’m being very skeptical. They need to play well for the next few series for me to really think something good is happening here.

I think this is a preview of what this team’s going to be like in the future, when we’re finally done rebuilding. And it’s pretty cool. We’ve got a very young and talented team here. It’s exciting

Well, we’re still at home, which is a huge blessing. We’re going to be playing the Braves for three games. Mat Latos tonight…
