No Errors!

  • 4-1 Padres

We lost the series last night. But we came out today and won a game. It was definitely important for us to win. The Giants took an early 1-0 lead, but in the bottom of the 2nd, Greg Maddux drove in the first run of his Padre career. In the sixth, Nick Hundley sac-flied Brian Giles in for our second run. Giles drove one home in the seventh, and Kouz hit his 15th homer. Maddog was super solid. He got win 352!! Adams and Heath did their usual routine (as in, getting 3 guys out). In the 9th, Trevor allowed an infield single that was not his fault at all. The ball took a nasty hop on Kouz and the batter barely ran it out. Then the next guy hit a ball that seemed like it could fall, but Jody Gerut made another incredible play. Then Giles made a great catch, Trevor struck out a rookie, and we win. Jody and Brian were amazing today. Jody was 2-for-4, with great defense. Giles was 2-for-3 with a walk, and great defense. I was really pleased with our defense in this series. We had no errors, and the fielders were solid. Luis Rodriguez made a great play at short, so I have some hope that he might be a decent shortstop. Well, he hasn’t done anything bad, has he? I guess I would like a proven shortstop playing for us. Next we play the Mets in Shea Stadium. I don’t think I will ever be able to forget the series in New York last year. Trev blew the save big time in the first game. In the next game, we fought really hard to win it. Kevin Cameron gave up 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th, but Trevor was able to seal a 7-5 win. In the third game, both Trevor and Billy Wagner blew saves in the 9th. In the top of the tenth, Adrian hit a solo homer. Heath Bell got his first major league save. That game was like 9-8 or something. That series was the most nerve-wracking series of the year for me. But it was amazing. Hopefully this upcoming series won’t be as intense as last year’s, but with the same result: San Diego wins.

Good for Maddux! I hear he could still be on the move, however. The Dodgers may not realize it yet, but they need him.

Maddux might be needed in LA, but the Dodgers weren’t willing to give up a good player for him. I was pleased that the Padres weren’t going to settle with some low minors prospect. Now that Greg has #351 and #352, I’m OK with him leaving, if it comes to that. Go Padres!
